David Capie is a lecturer in Political Science and international Relations at Victoria University of Wellington in the School of History, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations, Humanities and Social Sciences. Until recently he was a Research Fellow and Co-Director of the Armed Groups Project in the Centre for International Relations at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
He holds degrees in law and politics from Victoria University of Wellington and an M.A. from the Australian National University, where he was a Freyberg Scholar. He wrote his Ph.D at York University in Toronto, which he attended on a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship.
He is the author of several books on Asia and Pacific security issues, including The Asia-Pacific Security Lexicon (2001) with Paul M. Evans, and Small Arms Production and Transfers in Southeast Asia (2002).
